7/31/09

All the interns are going on a tour of ITT today. It should be interesting and we have all these rules about what to wear, like no short, no shirtsleeve shirts, no open toed shoes and highheels, as well as that we have to bring our passports with us because only us citizens are allowed into the place.

7/30/09

Today I mostly worked on a program called Arc View trying to create TIN's using these data and images that Nina gives me.

7/29/09

Today should be an fun if not at least interesting day. If it is not too cloudy and rainy we are going to go down to lake Ontario to collect water temperatures, but at this point those chances are felling pretty slim. Also one of the other interns birthday is today, so we are have a party for her with pizza and cake during lunch. Besides that I am finishing learning and doing tutorials on the 3D analyst in ArcView.

7/28/09

Today was a very productive day. Almost all day I worked with a bunch of other people on an experiment which tested the temperature of the brakes of cars when it has different loads in it. We used many many box's of paper as weight in the car and took measurements and collected data for about 7 hours. Hopefully we wont have to do it again though Katie believes that we will most likely have to.

7/27/09

Today, I finished collecting the data for the mulch, add the pictures I took over to the files and transfered all of the data over to blinky. Then I did tutorials on how to use the 3D features on a program called arcview that I use when dealing with the landsat data.

7/24/09

today I mostly worked with mulch. First I collected different samples of it from around the campus then I used the ASD to test the reflectance of it.

7/23/09

today should be a not quite busy but not quite slow day. Im not sure if nina has anything planned for me at this point but I do know that I have to finish taking measurements on the cary, possibly learn how to use another important machine, and possibly help out with an eye tracking experiment going on in the building.

7/22/09

Today I has a few things going on. We are probably not going out on the collect since it is very cloudy outside today, so I am going to go to two different seminars which look to be good.

7/21/09

Today was another slow day. Since Nina hasn't returned from her conference and I finished the work I was given to do. I didn't have much to do.

7/20/09

today has the feeling of being another slow day. Nina has not yet returned from her conference and Katie has not arrived yet or possibly will not be here today. So I will probably go and help with the two experiments going on around campus that we, as interns, were invited to volunteer for. It should be fun and hopefully the eye tracking machine for one of the experiments is working today.

7/17/09

Today was a slow and boring day. I did not have muchto do for the first half and during the second half I did tedious and boring tests for an experiment. Hopefully I will get more to do when nina gets back from her conference on monday.

7/16/09

today has been a slow day. I need to be doing work on entering the landsat data into bart ( the computer i am working on) but am having a hard time get time on the computer because katie needs to work on stuff on bart as well and i have had to wait until she stopped to be able to go on it. so instead i have read more into the masters paper.

7/15/09

today i work on entering the landsat data into the computer and read more of the masters paper that nina gave me to read so that i would understand more about what i am doing.

7/14/09

i went out on the boat ontario lake which was fun but we didnt make it very far out of the bay since the waves were 3-4 ft. so instead of taking all of the lake temps on the boat katie and i took them from off of the dock next to charlott beach

7/13/09

today should prove to be an interesting day. I am going out on my first collect on lake Ontario and hope to have a good time. I can also happily say that i am done with the idl training though I hopefully will not actually have to write any programing in my job any time soon.

7/8/09

Today was fun. I learned all the process involved with using the CARY machine and tested samples on it for the rest of the day. The idl training wasn't as bad either especially since we were actually learning things that were applicable to what we are doing in our jobs

7/8/09

Today was better than the first two days. It was a little less confusing since I was just reviewing most of the procedures from yesterday. I also finally started something actually productive to the research by finding the regions of interest around the buoys the remote sensing group is using on lake Ontario. I am learning to right all of the new procedures down so that I don't necessarily have to memorize the hundreds of steps, but rather have something to look at. The IDL training class went much smoother today, though it is still pretty difficult and confusing, at least Paul went a little bit slower and did more basic stuff with us. I am beginning to get the concepts of idl a little bit more than I was yesterday. I also was taught partially today how to use the CARY machine, which detects the amount of reflection off of different objects

7/7/09

Work was very overwhelming today. Since it was the second day we actually did work today and it was very confusing at times. I had to learn tons of steps on how to input different data that was collected into the computer and even use UNIX to switch an image for one computer to another. Katie, the student I am partnered with, was very took me through each step of the process showing me what I would have to do. In the afternoon, myself and all of the other interns took a class in IDL. It was so confusing and I had no clue what half of the stuff Paul talked about actually was. Hopefully tomorrow will be easier or at least a little bit less confusing.

7/6/09 (first day of work)

Today was fun! I got to know the campus and the people I will be working with by doing a image scavenger hunt around campus. The other team won but it was still very helpful that I kind of know how to get around the campus now. The department got us pizza and were giving us a little orientation of imaging science department when the fire alarm went off so we got to fix our id cards and get everything situated with our computer accounts instead. I talked with Nina and learned some of what I was going to be doing all summer for her, and I met the undergraduate, Katie, that I will be partnered with over the summer as well.
